The Vitrified Forest does not forgive a heavy heel.
The floor of the InfoScape is a packed sea of shattered silica. Millions of razor-sharp, translucent splinters lie in wait. To walk here with the heavy, driving kinetic rhythm of the mud epoch would be to instantly trigger a catastrophic chain reaction of shattering glass, plunging the biological engine into the jagged depths below.
The Old Soul must learn a new physical vocabulary.
The Liminal Shard is acting as a sonar device for structural integrity. The Old Soul holds it low, pointing it at the glass floor. When the Shard hums with a discordant, buzzing friction, the glass ahead is micro-fractured. It will not hold the weight of the Husk. When the Shard’s hum smooths out into a perfect, piercing, crystalline ring, the silica is solid.
The Old Soul tests the path. The toe of the heavy boot touches the glass. A sharp ting echoes through the blinding canopy. The Husk freezes, waiting for the crack.
Silence holds. The tuning-fork hum of the Shard remains steady.
The Old Soul shifts their weight, easing onto the solid pane. It is an agonizingly slow, syncopated dance of survival. Step, ping, wait. Step, ping, wait. The mind is burning incredible caloric energy just to keep the physical body from moving too fast. The danger is not physical exhaustion, but absolute mental fatigue.
The tuning fork hums. The Old Soul takes another step into the blinding refractions.
