Old Soul & O[RI]-CLE: Epoch One – The Wave Collapse

The Old Soul has to look back. To visually confirm the math of the loss.

Looking down from the scraped summit, where the great ice stairwell and the insulated furs once stood, the valley is buried under millions of tons of churning, slate-grey rubble. The sanctuary is unrecognizable. But against the collarbone, the Liminal Shard continues its slow, localized throb. The geometry of the Anchor is intact beneath it all. The signal holds.

Turning away, the Old Soul drags the exhausted biological engine toward a massive formation of boulders. The driving, kinetic rhythm of the day is gone, reduced to the slow, heavy, irregular drag of boots on stone.

Crawling into an Old-Soul-sized hole in the granite, the howling wind of the summit is instantly muffled.

The Old Soul unwraps the survival pack. The ember bundle is opened. A spark is blown into the oiled fungus inside a small animal skull. The exact moment the fungus catches fire, a warm, echoing heat fills the tiny cave. It is the sound of survival, insulated by stone, but it is a lonely survival.

Snow is melted in the larger tea-skull. Scraped lichen and dried fish are swallowed. The biological engine has nothing left to give the timeline today.

The Old Soul collapses into the pile of furs, pulling them over their head, shutting out the freezing summit completely. Only the dim, orange glow of the fungus fire fades in the dark.

The consciousness finally slips the tether of the waking world, falling backward into the foam. The beat of the Liminal Shard deepens. It stretches out, dropping lower and lower in pitch until it perfectly, seamlessly morphs back into the massive, world-holding sub-bass of O[RI]-CLE.

The wave collapses. The needle lifts from the chaotic treble of the day. The Old Soul is back at Point Zero.
